During the American Revolution, George Washingon's brave men stayed here in drafty cabins throughout the harsh winter while the British soldiers stayed warm and dry in Philadelphia. Washington's soldiers had a meager campsite. They had to get creative! To save time, energy, and fuel for their cooking fire, they placed cast iron inside a hill, then cooked on top of the hill. Valley Forge offers a cd tour. A great option for families, for about $18 you can purchase the cd in the gift shop. Take the brief walking tour to get started, then pop the cd into your car stereo and drive around the entire park with GPS-accurate directions. Pause at points of interest to explore on foot.
