Great system horrible financing departme...

I Rally enjoyed the class setup and the instructors, Financing is a nightmare, I have spent more time on the phone with financial agents than doing my assignments. The provide all the FA but there is always something wrong, sadly when there is my Financial Advisor is unavailable. It has been incredibly stressful, distracting me from the course I am taking and creating unexpected out of pocket expense. I do not recommend UOP for this reason. view more

UOP is great for the working person

People who whine about being enrolled to fast? If you jumping into a 20-30 thousand dollar loan without so much as a working idea of what needs to be done, your in trouble already. Yes they are expensive, where else can you earn a degree from your living room? More schools are moving to online environments, but UOP has been in the game the longest. Their are some people who get in (UOP) that think they will float by, they usually start dropping out in the upper level classes. You will get only what you put into at UOP since its online. You can however, attend classes at a local campus if there happens to be one near you. A great school to attend, if you have the dedication to get your work done, and participate as much as you can. view more

Expensive materials

I went to UOP because it fit my schedule. I attended actual classroom classes rather than online. I obtained a Bachelor Degree in IT which got me a little more money. I've had other job offers with UOP on my resume so I don't think it hurts. One thing I did not like is at the end of my program, they started FORCING you to download all of the course materials and charged around $80 for materials for each class...no more trying to buy a used textbook for reduced prices. The school was very expensive also, like the 2nd most expensive school in Utah at the time. view more

Go elsewhere

I recently swithched to a different school. One professor was trying to accuse me of plaigirism. This was after their system crashed for a week. The degrees wil not get you a job. It looks terrible on a resume! The classes are overpriced and the people that attend seem like they have not graduated 5th grade. view more

Expensive, but it helped!

I was a technology trainer for a large IT corporation and decided that I wanted to teach kids. I was traveling all around the US and Canada, and knew that I would not be able to attend a traditional university as I was never home during the week or weekends with my work schedule. I completed my Masters of Elementary Education and quit my job to student teach. I was frustrated with the school at one point because I felt like they did not believe me when I told them about the inappropriate things that were happening during my student teaching (the way my cooperating teacher was treating me). I decided to do another student teaching experience and it was wonderful. I had an awesome cooperating teacher who let me teach the way I wanted to - and had support from the school. I do wish, however, that they had hiring support for teachers or resume readers or something like that for when the teachers finished their masters. Finding a job in this economy for a teacher is quite difficult. I did get a job teaching in a district that I love - however, I will be paying for those student loans forever! view more

Terrible waste of money

I previously went to another online school and loved it. When it came time for my bachelors program I switched to UOP because of the program they offered. I was rushed into mandatory classes before my transcripts were obtained. 2 months into the process after numerous mishaps on their part they finally evaluated my newly aquired associares degree and decided only to keep enough credits from that to keep me in a funding bracket that would cause more out of pocket expenses for me. At this point I had a bill of over $2000 and they still hadn't applied any of my Pell Grants. I finally told them I wouldn't take another class unless they applied my grant money. They didn't and told me they couldn't until I started another class. I refused and paid my bill. 3 days later they applied my $1800 grants but refused to pay out even a portion of that to me. I am now going through a dispute process with a company that specializes in fraud associated with school and federal funding. I was told that UOP by far gets the most complaints (and infractions) out of all other online schools. BUYER BEWARE! view more

Many degrees to chose from

I started out 7 years ago getting my associates degree in business through Western International University (the sister school), I then proceeded to get my BA in Health Care Administration, and recently got my MBA through University of Phoenix online. I now am about to start my Master's program in Elementary Education. With this program I will receive my teaching certificate (in the state of Arizona) which I can easily transfer to the state that I live in. I am exited to get started, and Univeristy of Phoenix has helped me to go farther in my education than anyone in my family. view more

So far, so good!

I was really hesitant about University of Phoenix because I'd heard a lot of negative stuff about it. But I needed a program that I could adapt to my busy schedule. So I did a lot of research, mostly looking into their accrededation. I didn't have to quit my job and I'm going to school full-time online! I'm almost finished- only have to do my student teaching- and I've had a very positive experience so far. view more

Great opportunity!

I am a current student, and I love the flexibility of the classes, the being able to do it at home without having to worry about daycare, and the attention from the teachers and the counselors, they really want you to succeed and are there for you every step of the way. They want to make sure that you understand everything! view more

Current Student at UoP

I am a current student at UoP. I have enjoyed most of my classes (with the second math course giving me some trouble), but I have found that it works for me since I work part-time and am able to complete my homework and discussion questions when they fit into my schedule. I even took a 90 day leave of absence when my health was not good, and my counselor called to check in with me throughout that time also. My counselors have always been caring and helpful. I hear a lot of negativity from some people who have attended, but this is the right choice for me. view more

Don't listen to the negativity!

Universaity of Phoenix is an excellent school. They offer a variety of programs. I am currently working toward my BS and have already earned and AAEE with them. Many say that the school is not reputable but I think this comes from a lack of knowledge and understanding. Its my belief that over time the online environment that UOPX offers will become commonplace and those with degrees there will have world of opportunities open to them. view more

Very good College so far!

I am about to finish my first set of classes at University of Phoenix, and I have to say that the program has been great so far. My academic and financial counselors have been very good with keeping in touch with me and answering all of my questions. The only reason I gave UoP 4 stars instead of 5 is because I have had issues in regards to my financial aid and tuition costs, but they are currently in the process of fixing it. I had to contact them twice before finally getting it resolved, but they were very understanding and professional about the situation. view more

Doesn't Look Good On Resume

A University of Phoenix degree can stop a person from getting a job. As a recruiter, I've spoken to many corporations that have not been happy with the quality of candidates from these programs, and as a result it's a black mark on the resumes of applicants. This could hurt a career far more than it could help. The benefit is that it's a flexible program. view more

Good School

I am currently a student at University of Phoenix. I graduate in June with a Bachelor in Criminal Justice. What I like about U of P is that the classes are only 5 weeks, one night a week if you go to ground and a few times a week if you choose online. The teachers are awesome, as well as the counselors. You also get a great education! view more

Current Student

I have been enrolled at the University of Phoenix online for a little over a year now. Because most of my community college classes did transfer over, I have just over a year left til I will be done with my degree. I have been mostly satisfied so far with the instructors that I have had, and I'm learning a lot about my chosen major. Yes, it is expensive, but it is the best option that I have found. I have a full-time job and four children, so I need classes that work with my schedule. view more

MBA Graduate

I completed my MBA through this school. It provided me the opportunity to complete my degree while working full time. I attended both the online and the ground campuses for my education. It was a good enough education, but overall, I felt it was a lot easier to complete than my Bachelor's degree. view more

I wouldn't have finished school without ...

I am currently in the last class of my bachelors program and I really feel like I wouldn't have been able to get my degree had it not been for UOP. I have been able to be a stay at home mom and do my classes all from the comfort of my home. I have found the courses challenging and I have learned so much. About 90 percent of my instructors have been excellent. I would definitely recommend UOP. view more

Mixed feelings about this...

I took several online classes - The positives were that I could do my work on my own timeline and I didnt have to suffer through long lecture style classes I hate. The classes were also short at 6 weeks long, so no matter how difficult, boring, etc It didn't last long.
The negatives were:
If you stop taking classes, the recruiters will HAUNT you to come back. I don't believe the "teachers" are always "teachers" - but professionals in the area you are studying... Not sure how I feel about that for the money being spent. Also, there is always a group project that was required at the end of each of my classes. Have you ever tried to compile a 10 page paper with online people in different timezones? You will be able to get a degree if you complete your classes, but be careful because some of the credits you receive through this school may not transfer somewhere else..... view more

University of Phoenix

I took a class from the University of Phoenix in order to satisfy a requirement to sit for the CPA exam in Virginia. I have never been so disappointed in my life. The class I took was nowhere near as challenging as the classes I took at a regular university. The professor barely checked in once a week, and I found the grading process to be completely arbitrary.
I also had a bunch of problems with my "counselor" who completely screwed up my profile and caused a bunch of issues in how my payments were processed. He was more concerned with getting me signed up for MORE classes than fixing my problems. I complained about him and asked to be switched to another counselor.
Bottom line: a degree from University of Phoenix is a joke. view more

University of not so much

This university is for the working individual. It is very expensive, and don't really feel like you got enough from the courses. The "counselors" are nothing more than sales people. My husband started with the university, but was unable to finish; we looked into how much more he needs and they added even more courses to his required. They don't always take the courses that you might take at Junior colleges and their courses don't transfer over very well either. And some of the people that we have met that are graduates of UoP leave something to be desired in the smart department. view more

Perfect fit for me

I started at U of P in April of 2008, and graduated with my bachelors degree in Business Administration in May of 2010. It was a great experience for me and being a wife, mother, employee, etc....it was the perfect fit for me. I took one class at a time for 5 weeks for a total of 20 classes to reach my degree. I felt the degree was earned and I learned a lot in each class! view more

Many people are not thrilled

I've heard from many students of this college that they are completely unsatisfied with the experience. There will be no direct interaction, and their refund policy used to be one of the worst in the business.
Most schools will allow you to get all / most of your tuition money back if you drop within a certain time period. Last I knew, UoP held you accountable for 75% of the tuition upon logging in for your second class, which could be week #1.
You may as well take your money to the casino. view more

Taken Many Classes

I have taken many online classes and found them to be very convient. I enjoyed the online format because there is nmore interaction with the other students and professors. It is time consuming though as feedback is due several times a week so any student considering taking classes should take that into consideration. view more
