Amazing game with a fair amount of depth This is a great game and an absolute must for any hardcore boardgame player. This game is also a great way to introduce the relatively casual gamer (Monopoly, Risk, etc.) to the more complicated games. The expansions are also worth buying to allow for 5-6 players and added strategy. Settlers of Catan, a must for any gamer! Settlers of Catan is a classic board game that is perfect for both casual and serious gamers alike. The original version is best with 3-4 players, and while there are expansions and modifications for as few as 2 players or as many as 6, the original game with the original rules is still by far the best way to play. Everyone we've played this game with has become hooked, and purchased a copy of their own! There's even an app for the iphone/ipod touch, you can pass & play with a live opponent, or test your skills against the computer-generated players. Best... Game... Ever!!! This game is so easy to play and yet so complex... but only if you want it to be. There are add-ons to grow your game and create new challenges. My favorite aspect is that the board is never the same, keeping the game interesting and fair for first-timers and skilled veterans. This is a wholesome, not violent, and FUN game that has been one of the highest ranking across the globe for years and years. Even appeals to WOW gamers! This game, played by my family and friends for the last 4-5 years, is by far, the best game out there. We've even hooked two die hard WOW gamers on it! It's different each time you play it. It's game that you may start off with one strategy in mind but then you need to switch to another partway through. Great strategy game This is an awesome game. It is challenging, yet simple. I love how little is left up to luck and how much is based on pure strategy. I also enjoy the fact that you need to be engaged every turn to trade for resources. My favorite game before discovering Catan was Risk. Best Game EVER! I love this game, we have 3 or four game boards in the family and we play all the time. It is hours of fun, competitive yet deceptively simple. Best of the German-style board games I've tried other German-style board games like Carcassonne and Puerto Rico, but I find Settlers remains the best of this genre. Like all German-style games, the rules are very simple and easy to learn, but endlessly entertaining and replayable. Managing and trading resources, bluffing, building - all are represented here.
