I submitted a review of Shadowmarch to Amazon.com.
The worst thing about this book is that it's only part one of a trilogy. I read quite a bit of fantasy when younger, but this was the first fantasy book I'd read in a few years and I was immediately hooked. There's a rich and diverse set of characters who you can identify with, despise or become intrigued with. The setting reaches far and wide. I got completely caught up in this alternate world and all of its mysteries. It is long, it is detailed, it has lots of people and places and history that you need to keep straight -- not so much of a problem when you read the book in huge chunks over a few days time, but I'm not sure how much I'll remember by the time the next part becomes available! I guess I'll have to re-read it then because I definitely want to know what happens to these characters and learn how everything is connected.
