I love both volumes of Julia's seminal work, and have tried out many recipes...for the amateur cook - and even for those more advanced - some of the recipes can seem daunting - but that is what kinda makes this cookbook great - she explains pretty much every thing you are doing; and why you are doing it - in detail, and you really are learning cooking concepts and techniques, instead of just following recipes. And of course, she is witty, and makes all the reading and learning you are doing very entertaining and fun!! view more

What an inspiration!

Julia Child reminds me of my grandmother. But besides that she was truly an inspiration to those of us that attempt to follor our dreams. After moving to Paris and jumping through hoops and obstacles, she became an international sensation an created an encyclopedia of recipes that makes Martha Stewart look like a basic housewife.
