Janette Oke

Janette Oke Logo Janette Oke (born 18 February 1935) is a Canadian author and pioneer of inspirational fiction. Her books are often set in a pioneer time period and centered around female protagonists. She is a committed Evangelical Christian. Janette Steeves was born in the Depression years in Champion, Alberta, to a Canadian prairie farmer and his wife, Fred and Amy Steeves. Her first novel, titled Love Comes Softly, was published by Bethany House in 1979. This book was followed by more than 75 others.

I love this series. The stories are so innocent yet incredibly romantic. I love the images they evoke when reading. I have actually re-read twice! That being said when I do pick up the book I find myself embarrassed about the actual writing. This is in NO WAY a literary book but the story shines through. view more

I love her series Love Comes Softly. They kept me wanting to read more and wanting to know what was going to happen. I would read one book and go back to the Christian Book Store that next week (even though it only took me a couple days to read it) and get the next one. Easy Reads

I enjoyed reading the first of Janette Oke's books. After reading seven or so, they seemed to sort of run together; the characters and themes were similar. Overall, though, I enjoyed them. They were easy to read - it was nice to relax with one of these books. view more
