Highlights

It's like Christmas every month!

My kids love the Highlights magazine. I have three, 7, 4, and 2. The oldest now gets the older version for kids, with stories geared more towards her level. She loves to see the artwork, read the stories and the jokes, and then, of course, read them all to me. The younger two love the High Five magazine geared for the younger crowd. Sometimes I get to sit down with them and look through it, but it's rare that their older sister hasn't beaten me to the punch. I think secretly she still likes it, too. view more

Highlights - not the highlight of our li...

Our kids have started getting a subscription to Highlights as a gift. I remember 'back-in-the-day' when I had my own subscription. My kids absolutely love the magazine and look forward to getting it every month. Me, on the other hand, feel sort of 'meh' about it any more. I don't know if I'm just jaded, but I'm too jazzed about some of the changes and 'updates' that have been made to the magazine. While there are still the old standby entries in the magazine, a lot of them (and newer ones I don't remember from my childhood) strike me as 'too old' for the target audience. For example, one of my kids told me recently that Arizona just seems to be drawn 'too old' for the age of kids that are reading Highlights. Highlights - used to be the best! Now? Great for school aged children!

My daughter gets a highlight subscription for her birthday every year and we couldn't be happier with it. She loves when it comes in the mail for her, and usually spends that night reading and doing the activities in it. I love to listen to her read stories to me and to help her find the items in the hidden pictures. The price for a year subscription is awesome, as well! view more
