Selling to get rid of clutter

I gotta tell you that I love Ebay. I've been selling and buying stuff on Ebay for the past 5-6 years, maybe longer. I use it to sell old games or kids clothes, nothing too expensive because of course they want a pretty handsome cut. If I have anything worth more, I'll try to sell of Craigs List first, then if it doesn't sell, then listing on Ebay. Again, great place to get rid of excess stuff. view more

Great For Buyers

Having friends who've sold on Ebay, I know it'd be a different review. But as a buyer, I've found Ebay still a great deal, even after a decade of being an Ebay customer. My first purchase was for an out of print book from the early 1900s. Over the years, I've bought a wide range of items. I've only been scammed twice. First, was an order for computer memory, over $100. Fortunately, credit card compensated my loss in the fraud. A few years ago, despite numerous successful magazine subscription purchases from other sellers, I was scammed in a $15 subscription order. The seller was scammed by a slick "middleman" between her and the magazine publisher. It was a "Steve Rainey" scam, prevalent at that time. Middleman Steve Rainey (already blackballed from Ebay) still sold bogus magazines, electronics, and even vacations and real estate through legitimate Ebay sellers. Only when he skipped out with the $$ and no goods did they realize they'd fallen for his con scheme. As I'd paid through checking account instead of credit card, my loss couldn't be compensated. However, now Ebay has a loss protection program, so it's safer. Another problem with early Ebay was if I lost auction, then bid on similar item with another/same seller, if first auction winner defaulted, I was obligated to purchase. Though I'd already won at second auction. I was fleeced through this once, but fortunately a low-cost item. I'm relieved to find this policy has changed. My last purchase was for a Nook Color, costing much less than elsewhere, and included tax/shipping. I earned Ebay bucks for the purchase, was able to use Paypal's BillMeLater, which offered 6 months with no interest, plus earned bonus Ebay bucks for using BillMeLater. As I get surveys/points websites incentives in Paypal $$, the Nook is costing me nothing. Each time I'm awarded Paypal $$, I transfer it to my BillMeLater account. So there are still good deals to be found on Ebay, as a buyer. view more

Except for the tie to PayPal, Good

Started buying and selling back in 1999 or so. The relatively recent selling policy changes have made "exploratory" listings more practical, and I've made some money selling items I no longer needed. The integration with USPS is fantastic, and makes shipping super easy. The fees are not horrible, considering the guaranteed exposure. The problem I have with eBay is their tie-in with PayPal, whom I no longer trust. I'd always heard bad things, but never understood until recently. Now that they've bit me, I'm exploring other options - and because eBay is so heavily dependent upon PayPal, I'm finding a new way to sell items. view more

no matter what i need i can find it on ebay i love going on there and finding car parts for half of what i would have to pay anywhere else i have bought everything from this place clothes,jewlery ,sporting good stuff you name it i found it on here and purchased very happy with this site you can get new or used that is what is so good about it dont have to look everywhere just this one place view more

I was a member since 2004 and in the earlier days, it was very much possible to sell and make a profit on Ebay, but since Paypal and seller fees became unbearable, most sellers I know have left, I do find deals once in a while. view more

Best way to sell an item!

eBay is perfect for buying and selling. It is simple to sell some of the treasures you have sitting in the closet collecting dust. It is nice to collect some cash for something you aren't even using. eBay has given me a whole new outlook on online shopping. I love being able to use PayPal and have things delivered from around the world right from my home. My new favourite thing to buy - coupons! I love paying someone else just a few dollars to do the boring job of cutting the coupons and then being able to take advantage of $100's in savings. view more

Ebay, good for buyer, not always sellers

Okay, if you're a buyer, ebay is a pretty doggone good place to check out. Variety, new, used, worldwide deals. However, if you're a seller, the fees are going up and up. And they said they were going to start charging a percentage of the shipping and handling to encourage people to charge less, but if they take a percentage, shipping and handling has to cost people More, not Less. However, it's still the best avenue to downsize. view more

Good Deals

You can always go on eBay and find what your looking for way cheaper than what your local retailer might be trying to sell. Both products, if compared side by side, are exactly the same. They both will be same brand and everything only cheaper. You have to know how to shop on eBay though. view more

I absolutely love and recommend Ebay!

I always kind of thought of Ebay as a big garage sale, with people selling unwanted items. There is so much more to ebay than that! There are several items i buy exclusively on Ebay bc it is the cheapest place by far! For example, you cannot find cheaper brand new phone covers or chargers! I always go directly to ebay for those. Mostly love, some hate

I have been using ebay for years now, and for the most part I have found great deals on things I wanted. I have purchased clothing, antiques, electronics... you name it. My only concern is that seller fees are getting so expensive. I don't like that they have teamed up with Paypal and don't even all other payment options... but what can I do? great way to find what you need.

I love Ebay. Ebay has helped me many times to find something I could not find anywhere else. Even if I could find it, it was always cheaper on Ebay. I've never really had problems with any of the sellers on there. I always check and read feedback for the seller before I buy from them. If there is something suspicious or disconcerting, I do not buy from them. view more

e(vil)bay in a good and bad way

Ebay has it's pros and cons both for the seller and the buyers. Ebay is a place where you can search and buy practically anything. Items can be found at a cheap price (more so found cheaper than in retail stores), but there are sometimes when items are found to be overpriced (especially some 'buy it now' items). Buyers are able to bid on items limiting themselves to a certain price range, buy it straight away (buy it now) or sometimes make an offer to the seller. These choices are great and give an advantage to the bidders/buyers to pay at a price within their range. The seller would either make profit or not/loose money depending on how much they spent on the item in the first place and how much it is sold for. What I love about Ebay is the search and filtering options which allows me narrow down the searches when i'm looking for something really specific and in a certain condition. A bad thing about Ebay is that there is some sellers that aren't reliable and trustworthy and you might end up buying something that was not described and it may be difficult to get you're money back. And of course there's the waiting period when you're items are being shipped. But of course Ebay is not the most safest place to shop compared to shopping at retail stores, but it's a place where you could find things at a much lower price. view more

I love this website! I shop on it all the time. It is a great way to find unique items for gifts or for myself. I have been shopping there since April of this year, and I have only had one negative experience where a seller didn't ship my item. I opened a case with the eBay Resolution Center, and I was able to get a refund within 3 days! I will continue shopping with eBay in the future. view more

Ebay is a great way to find practically anything. While I've never been an ebay seller, I have purchased quite a bit. It has allowed me to find unique items for gifts. I love the addition of ebay bucks - a reward for purchasing on ebay. The drawbacks are items being misrepresented and exorbitant shipping some sellers charge. Some sellers also like to list items above fair market value, but with the wide selection of items, dealing with these types of sellers is easily avoidable. view more

Impossible to make any money selling bec...

I've sold stuff on ebay in the past, 5-6 years ago, and it was a nice experience. But lately I've sold a few thousand dollars worth of stuff on there and they've been taking 30% and more off the top. These are for basic listings with no extra features, with a 50 cent listing fee. The final value fees are totally gouging any profits I should be making. I tried to find stuff that I could buy from wholesalers, or even direct from China, but no matter what I find, there's no way to make a profit because of ebay's high fees. So thank you craigslist for being free. It's a little more work but it saves me hundreds of dollars, and I get cash in my pocket. view more

ebay, seller fees are up

Seems to be a popular thing today, but it's nice to know that I'm not the only one that thinks ebay is making it much more difficult to be a seller. Ebay's now going to make a commission on my shipping/handling charges, but won't let me charge anything for handling that is really handling costs, like driving to the post office, packing it up, etc. And, I've gotten complaints that the cost is more than the actual postage cost, but people forget you have to pay for shipping materials, manilla envelopes, bubble wrap, etc. It's crazy! And, I've had some really sucky buyers that end up not buying after all, of take weeks to pay, and you aren't able to leave negative feedback. Come on! What's the point of leaving feedback if you can't be honest. Sure, you can put in a negative comment, but some people just check the rating, not reading the comments. What if it's buried under a few others? view more

I will say that Ebay started off to be a great company which is the reason they have been able to expand and purchase other companies. The downfall, is that ebay needs to remember that the ebay sellers are still the little guys trying to survive and make it in this economy. Also, if it weren't for us little guys selling there wouldn't be or have to be an Ebay. Ebay needs to reconsider there fees they are going to start charging the seller. Also, I feel like they should have each persons method of payment and as soon as an item sells that someone has bidded on, and you are the top buyer then the funds comes directly to you instead of waiting. My problem is that I get so many people that bid and are the winner and after all that is said and done they will not pay. Also, you cannot give the buyer a negative, you can however leave them a positive star and write negative information. I feel thought that enough is enough make the top bidder have to pay no more backing out, or scamming people just to scam them. Ebay needs more strict policies and more personal information on each bidder. view more

Only, is anyone besides me not happy that ebay is changing things so they get even more money from your sales? YES, they provide a great service. I agree 100%. But now they're taking a percentage of the shipping / handling charges too. That means I have to raise prices. So, I foresee unhappy buyers. I have been an active seller and buyer since 2004, everything was great, and I was even making enough money to consider it a part-time job.. That stopped a few months ago. Yes they have a great customer base, and your item will sell, plus good customer service, But now they will charge a final value fee on SHIPPING! wow, and also raise other fees. I stopped selling 2 weeks ago, I rather sell them locally, and save, insertion fees, final value fee, final value fee on shipping, shipping and all that stuff. the ebay of today, does not have the right intentions. view more
