BzzAgent is thrilled to be selected as a finalist in the 2011 MITX Awards. Our work with Trend Micro for the “What’s Your Story” contest was selected in the Innovative Use of Social Media Strategies category.
Here’s a brief case study video of the project:
We are proud of the Trend Micro program not only because it is a great use of social media, but because it takes a new approach to an importance cause – educating kids about responsible use of social media. Kids are all over the web at a very young age. All their TV shows and music idols are all pushing their social media sites at them, and often, kids have very little guidance on how to use them. As an Internet security leader, Trend Micro wanted to help. But they didn’t want to do it in a way that kids would tune out. It had to be different. To be effective, the voices had to come from other kids like them.
The “What’s Your Story” contest was born. BzzAgent worked with Trend Micro to create a contest that encouraged kids to create videos about their own experiences with Internet safety. Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and blogs were used to promote the cause and make the contestants a voice for Internet safety. A microsite hosted submitted videos and viewers selected the finalists. A panel of experts selected the grand prize winner, who received a cool $10,000.
Over 140 videos were submitted from 117 countries. The videos were so effective many prominent Internet organizations came out to support the initiative. Supporters included MTV and its A Thin Line campaign, Facebook Safety team, Yahoo Safely team, The Cyberbullying Research Center, Childnet International, and the State Attorney Generals of Ohio and Michigan.
Root for us at the MITX Awards ceremony on December 5th. This is always a great event. If you’d like to attend, get your tickets here.
